“Gathers loot nearby, and after swimming in the Ocean for a bit will shed Salt Crystals.”
-Salt Dog
Salty Dog's Hat can be crafted at the Combriner. When the hat is equipped, a Salt Dog appears. It can be repaired with a Sewing Kit or Trusty Tape to restore its durability.
Salt Dog is a mob that appears when a player equips the Salty Dog's Hat. Once summoned, Salt Dog follows the player, running on land or swimming in the Ocean to collect items within a 3.75 tile radius and deliver them directly to the player’s inventory. Among valid items within range, it prioritizes those farthest from the player. Salt Dog cannot pick up certain items, similar to The Lazy Forager, such as items from traps or living mobs.
When swimming in the Ocean for a minute, Salt Dog will accumulate Salt Crystals on its back. Once it reaches land, it will shake off 1–2 Salt Crystals.
Salt Dog can be attacked and killed by hostile creatures such as Hounds. If killed, Salt Dog will respawn after one full day. If Salt Dog is dismissed by unequipping the hat, it will return later with the same health it had before being dismissed.
