Winona's Spotlight
–Wurt
Winona's Spotlight is a character-exclusive Structure craftable only by Winona in Don't Starve Together. Requires 1 Trusty Tape, 2 Gold Nuggets, and 1 Firefly to craft.
In order to work, it has to be in range of a powered Winona's Generator or a Winona's G.E.M.erator.
When in a certain radius (shown by the circle around it when placing it), the Spotlight will follow the movements of any awake Survivor. If there are multiple Spotlights, they will prioritize having different targets from each other. Spotlights work only at night or while inside a dark place such as the Caves.
Portability
Winona with the "Portability" Insight skill can move her Spotlights by dismantling them and putting them into her inventory. Also, when crafting, it gives Winona's Spotlight as item.
Hotlight
If a Spotlight was placed by Winona with "Hotlight" skill, the light of Spotlights will also radiate 88 units of heat to all players and Thermal Stones during all seasons except summer.
Spacious Spotlight
With the "Spacious Spotlight" skill, the light radius from Spotlight will illuminate a larger area.
Energy-Saver
The "Energy-Saver" skill will prevent Spotlights from using energy from generators while idle.
Tips
- Winona's Spotlight gives an effective solution to surviving darkness in the player's base. As it will follow the player's movements, it is excellent for activities that would usually be harder to do at night, especially those that require a free hand such as Farming or cutting down trees.
- Winona's Spotlight with the Hotlight upgrade makes this doubly true, as the player does not need to hide near a Fire Pit all night to stay warm while working in the base. However, as Winona's Spotlight only functions during nighttime and not during day or dusk, this is not reliable round the clock, especially during early Spring. This drawback is irrelevant in the Caves, where the Spotlight will be active no matter the time of day on the surface, or during Winter, when Spotlights with the Hotlight upgrade will continue to function even during daytime.
- Winona's Spotlight with the Hotlight upgrade will warm any player in the radius of the light, even if the Spotlight isn't following the player in question. If there are fewer Spotlights than survivors, the player the Spotlight is following can simply stay in range of other players until daybreak to ensure they stay warm or well-lit.
- If a Spotlight on land is following a player that hops on a boat and another player on land is in range, the Spotlight will deselect that player as a target and switch which player it's following. This can be used to switch the Spotlight's target without needing to outrange it first.
- A Spotlight following a target just out of range will illuminate the nearest spot to its target that is within range, rather than turning off immediately.
Trivia
- Winona's Spotlight, alongside her other gadgets and the Engineering Tab, was introduced in her Character Update as part of the character overhaul for Don't Starve Together.
- During Rhymes with Play #228, some concepts for Winona's Spotlight were shown, including designs based on a lighthouse, rustic streetlamp, and a studio light.
