They said in streams that the new resource variants are part of Through the Ages expansion, that aims to make worlds change over time and always stay "new". I believe that this would be made in part by diseases (changing resources) and resource variants. As they have an option in world gen, newcomers may not know what resource variants and changing resources mean. Having a page just for that would explain to not-so-active players why there are different type of bushes and these features are exclusive to don't starve together. It would work as a trivia too, after all, this is a wiki.
