best way of dealing with hell hounds is to stand your ground, wear log suit and equip a spear or tentacle spike, they come to you one by one and you can kill it before the next hound reaches you, running around will only cause them to form a group after all of them have spawned making it a lot harder to deal with, dropping a morsel or monster meat before the first one comes will distract it giving you the opportunity for first strike, when dealing with the red hell hound, you don't have to unequip your log suit, red hell hounds usually come last if the wave will summon one, just move from your position after killing it to avoid the fire, only red hell hounds drops Red Gem
