I dont know for sure, but in worlds I usually see one "pack" of hound mounds...Around 6-10 mounds all in one biome, evenly spread out. I have NEVER seen one lone one (naturally spawned, of course) though this is just my experience, my guess is you have to search the map or do the Full Map console code
