A lantern lasts about 6.4x than a torch. (8 min * (60 sec/1 min) = 480 sec, 480 / 75 = 6.4; the 75 is how long a torch lasts), so resource wise, so the cost to make (rounding it down from 6.4) 6 torches is 12 cut grass and 12 twigs, so a lantern is actually more efficient resource-wise, all you have to do is just grab two lightbulbs which are rather plentiful in a cave and you just make a new lantern instead of having to refueling it.
