since gold is easy to get once you find the pig king think of it like this.

normal pick = 6 twigs and 6 flint

opulent pick = 4 twigs and 2 nuggets

and its less likely to break at a crucial moment (eg when you need some stone just before night falls)

using the opulent pick also means you will have more flint for making spears
