I'm wondering if pine cones left on the ground ever grow into trees on their own. It would make a lot more sense, but so far it either takes a really long time, or just doesn't happen.

Also, considering only full sized trees drop cones when you chop them down (burnt or otherwise), and each tree only drops one cone, which in turn only grows one tree, you can't actually make more trees, only renew them. You'll quickly experience a tree shortage if you're not careful. I've had my forest population devastated by the fire hound attacks and usage of pig chopping, and I'm really worried about the long run. When I chop trees I only choose the full grown ones, whereas the pig followers just chop everything down within reach.

Yes, I need to consider the long run since I'm on day 100+ progressing very slowly with solidifying a base, still no shadow manipulator, and I plan on going to 500+ if necessary.
