So they got sucked into that malefic book. Charlie became a monster and Maxwell/William Carter the "king" but he is chained to his dark throne. Afterwards Maxwell tricks Wilson through the radio to build a portal. The portal sucked in Wilson and in some kind of way the other characters. The only remaining question is Who are "They"? The demons that trapped Maxwell and put him in charge of their world in their book.
