Perhaps, Maxwell's world is in fact a sort of 'hell', where each character is sent because of bad deeds that they have done in the past, for example Wilson has a skeleton on his wall, perhaps he murdered someone? Or Wendy herself might've killed Abigail, after all her motto is: "Abigail! Come back! I'm not done playing with you."
Just my thoughts on the matter...
