Yeah, should definitely always check for backlinks before deletion to make sure you're not leaving tons of red links behind your wake

(that's how I found out about Ancient, which is used in a lot of places, because of templates that default file names to the same article name and File:Ancient.png)

So that's what I would consider a useful redirect aswell, makes template calls more succinct without having to worry about link= parameters and such
