A Morsel is a meat food item that is dropped by Rabbits, Redbirds, Crows, Snowbirds, Smallbirds, Baby Beefalo (as Baby and Toddler), Splumonkeys, Moleworms, Buzzards, Prime Apes, and Pengulls when they are killed. A Morsel can be used in several Crock Pot recipes as a meat filler, and can be dried on a Drying Rack for 1 day to produce a Small Jerky. Like other meats, a morsel can be eaten by a Pig to have them follow the player, or can be given to the Pig King in exchange for a Gold nugget. It has a meat value of 0.5.

A Cooked Morsel is a Morsel, Rabbit, or captured Bird that has been cooked over a Campfire, Fire Pit or Star. It can also be used in various Crock Pot recipes. Mobs that ordinarily drop Morsels that die from being set on fire will drop a Cooked Morsel instead. Like other Meats, a Cooked Morsel can be given to a Pig to have them follow the player, or to the Pig King in exchange for a Gold Nugget.

Small Jerky is created by using a Drying Rack to dry an uncooked Morsel, Fish, Eel, Drumstick or Frog Legs for 1 day, or a Batilisk Wing for 2 days. The Small Jerky has an extremely low rate of spoilage (taking 20 days) and restores 12.5 Hunger, 8 Health and 10 Sanity when eaten. This makes it an excellent item for keeping sanity high, particularly in winter, if one has a stock of rabbits or other constant supply of meat.

Jerky can also be used in the Crock Pot in place of meat or morsels with no negative side effects. Thus, 2 Meat and 2 Morsels turned into 2 pieces of Jerky and 2 pieces of Small Jerky can be used to make Meaty Stew.

Unharvested Small Jerky will not start to spoil as long it's left on the Drying Rack, making it possible to keep it fresh for an indefinite amount of time.

This food can be useful for recovering from the effects of Woodie's Werebeaver transformation, though it is significantly weaker than Jerky, thus requiring a lot more Small Jerky for such a recovery.

Downloadable Content

In the Reign of Giants and Shipwrecked DLCs, Small Jerky will begin to spoil immediately upon creation on a Drying Rack, regardless of whether it is harvested or not.

Usage

Tips

• As Small Jerky is not technically cooked, Wagstaff will still suffer a 3 penalty from consuming it, bringing the total healing down to 5 . This makes Small Jerky inefficient for healing Wagstaff, at least compared to other meals such as Fishsticks or Honey Ham.
