Ice is a Food item in the Reign of Giants DLC, obtained by mining Mini Glaciers. It can be used to craft various temperature-reducing items, added to an Ice Cube to repair it, eaten to reduce the player's temperature by 40 degrees for 7.5 seconds, or used to extinguish Fire and smoldering objects. Ice is also used in a few Crock Pot recipes, or can be used as a filler, much like Twigs.

Ice melts in three days. It will never melt when put in an Ice Box or when the world temperature is at or below 0 degrees (typically only in Winter) and will melt much faster when being near a fire (at a rate of 30). If the player is still holding a chunk of Ice while it melts, Wetness will be increased by 2 points per unit of ice.

Ice is also included in the Shipwrecked DLC, as well as the craftables it is used for. Mini Glaciers are not found here, however, Ice can be obtained by refining Hail that can be collected in Hurricane Season. The DLC also introduces the Ice Maker 3000, which can produce Ice. It is also used in several more Crock Pot recipes, including Bisque and Ceviche.

In the Hamlet DLC, Ice can be bought for 1 Oinc at Swinesbury Fine Grocer's and is required to craft Sprinklers.

Prototype.png Tips

  • Ice can be used as an edible filler ingredient in most Crock Pot recipes, greatly increasing the bonus points of those recipes. Because Ice never spoils in an Ice Box, it is recommended to keep several stacks of Ice in an Ice Box next to Crock Pots.
  • It's recommended to eat some Ice if the player needs to lower their temperature during Summer or Dry Season.

Placeholder.png Trivia

  • When Ice melts, it gains the prefixes of "Melting" and "Melted" instead of "Stale" and "Spoiled", like other perishable foods.
