Can be planted in the ground.

-for Sapling as ItemScrapbook Description

Saplings are small Plants found commonly in Grasslands and Forests. They can be picked to provide 1 Twig, after which they will need 4 days to regrow. Saplings can be dug up with a Shovel and replanted in a new location (typically closer to a base camp). Saplings can't be planted on Checkerboard Floorings, Wooden Floorings, Cobblestones, Carpeted Floorings, Rocky Turfs, Sandy Turfs, and Cave Rock Turfs, unless it has been planted before these turfs were placed. Unlike Grass Tufts and Berry Bushes, Saplings don't require fertilization to regrow after being replanted. This is similar to Spiky Bushes, which can be harvested without fertilization.

They are also highly flammable, and may be used as fuel in Campfires or Fire Pits. When burned on the ground, a Sapling will leave behind 1 Ash.  Because they burn easily, Saplings planted close together are very susceptible to Lightning strikes. This can be prevented by building Lightning Rods. Saplings will not regrow during Winter.

Despite their name and comments from some characters, Saplings will never grow into Trees.

Saplings, along with other items, like Log Suits, Grass Tufts, and Boards, have the longest burn time.

Saplings will turn into Withered Saplings during Summer. During this condition, Saplings are unharvestable for their Twigs and digging these will yield 1 Twig. A way of curing or preventing these from withering is to simply rehydrate them using any watering method or apply fertilizers or build an Ice Flingomatic nearby.

In Don't Starve Together, Twiggy Trees serve as an alternative source for Twigs.

Lunar Sapling

Can be planted in the ground.

-for Lunar Sapling as ItemScrapbook Description

The Return of Them expansion adds a different type of Sapling to the game. Apart from their appearance, they do not differ from the original version. Both types co-exist in a world: The Lunar Sapling only appears in the Lunar Forest Biome on the Lunar Island, while the original one can be found on the mainland. The code for the Lunar Sapling is "sapling_moon".
