Can be thrown into the sea to create a pair of connected Whirlportals. Boats sailing close to them will be brought to the other entrance.

-Scrapbook Description

The Bootleg Getaway is an Item exclusive to Don't Starve Together. It can be acquired upon the defeat of a Frostjaw. It creates a portal at sea to any other discovered location in the Ocean.

The Bootleg is an equippable item. To be thrown, the player must be on a Boat or Grass Raft. To create a portal, once the Bootleg is prompted to be tossed, the map opens and the player can select which other location in the Ocean they want the exit to be. The location can be anywhere the player has uncovered on the map, whether they've been there before or had it revealed by a Map Scroll.

The Bootleg is always thrown in the direction of the location desired to be the second exit. Therefore, if the boat the player is on is too close to land or another boat in that direction, the Bootleg simply lands there and can be picked back up.

An ocean portal that allows boats to travel long distances.

-Scrapbook Description

The Whirlportal is created by the Bootleg Getaway. It stays open for 4 minutes (half of an in-game day). Boats or rafts that pass through are teleported to the other side of the portal. Depending on the speed of the boat, waves may be created. Players on boats that pass through have their Wetness increased by 20. It is a two-way portal; therefore, it can be made with the purpose of teleporting other players to the player with the Bootleg. It can also be used to go back and forth between the two locations as long as the portal is active.

Prototype.png Tips

  • The Whirlportal can be used to lead a Boat from other players to the current location, as long as the area of the other Boat has already been revealed on the map. For the exact position the other Boat can light a Flare or use a Moonlens.
  • Whirlportals can be created in areas of water that are too small to hold a boat. If either end of the Whirlportal is in such an area boats will not be able to cross through.

Placeholder.png Trivia

  • The Bootleg Getaway was introduced in the Skill Spotlight: Wigfrid & Willow update.
  • On beta release prior to update 585956, Whirlportals only stayed open for 60 seconds.
  • Whirlportals were previously found in the Don't Starve Hamlet files long ago
