The Bone Helm is an head armor item exclusive to Don't Starve Together, introduced in A New Reign. It is dropped by the Ancient Fuelweaver along with the Bone Armor and Shadow Thurible. It absorbs 70% of damage done by physical attacks and provides 20% Wetness resistance.

The Survivor wearing the Bone Helm will experience the effects of 0 Sanity and have a passive Sanity drain similar to the Nightmare Amulet. However, the Shadow Creatures that are summoned will be neutral. They will not attack unless provoked or the Helm is taken off. Aggressive creatures that spawned before the Helm was worn will remain aggressive.

A Bone Helm can be deconstructed using a Deconstruction Staff for 10 Bone Shards and 4 Nightmare Fuel.

Behavior

When in groups, attacking one will cause the other Shadow Creatures to become aggressive towards the player. They remain aggressive for about 2 minutes, and then they will become neutral again. If one player is wearing the helm and another is insane, the creatures will spawn to hunt the insane player while keeping the other one completely unharmed.

• The Woven - Elegant Shadow Helmet skin was introduced in the An Eye for An Eye update in 2021, as a crossover collaboration with Re-Logic's Terraria. Its rarity was Inspired - Elegant initially, but received change in August 19, 2022.

Tips

• The Bone Helm can be used to farm Nightmare Fuel from Shadow Creatures or Beardlings as the Shadow Creatures will remain passive and will not hurt the player.
• Alternatively, if the player approaches low Sanity in Caves or elsewhere one can not gain Sanity easily, Bone Helm can be worn to immediately lower the Sanity to 0 with no negative side effects.

Trivia

• Wearing the Bone Helm while eating a Grim Galette will cause instant death.
• The Bone Helm was added in a Bonus Update after the completion of A New Reign.
• While wearing a Bone Helm, neutral Shadow Creatures (and Nightmare Creatures) will often perform their attack animation when near the player, then back away.
