-Scrapbook Description

The Piggyback is a type of Backpack which requires 4 Pig Skins, 6 Silk, and 2 Ropes to craft and an Alchemy Engine to prototype. It is a larger Backpack which has 12 Inventory slots but reduces walking speed by 10% while equipped. It has 4 more slots than a Backpack, but 2 less than the Krampus Sack. It cannot be placed in the inventory or in Chests. Unlike the regular Backpack, it is fireproof.

The Piggyback and items inside are waterproof, but it does not protect the player from getting wet.

Glommer's Flower.png Main article: Belongings

  • The Woven - Elegant Piggy Backpack skin was introduced during the official Year of the Carrat event in 2020 in the Survivalist's Belongings Chest. Its appearance resembles a Pigman and its buckle references the Golden Belts introduced in the Year of the Pig King.
  • The Woven - Elegant Elephant Pack skin was introduced with the Wolfgang Refresh in December 2021 through the Musclebound Chest. Its appearance references the circus elephant Wolfgang used to pretend to lift in his animated short.

Prototype.pngTips

  • This is a good replacement for the Backpack until you get the Krampus Sack, though it should be unequipped during combat.
  • The speed reduction is completely ignored when riding a Beefalo, although one should hesitate to make a piggyback if they have a Beefalo with low domestication.
    • This also makes the piggyback much better for characters that heavily utilize Beefalos, such as Wendy and Maxwell.
  • The speed penalty can be mitigated with the Walking Cane.
  • Wolfgang, when in Mighty form, ignores the item's speed penalty. This in conjunction with the Leg Day perk from his Skill Tree makes the Piggyback a practical direct upgrade from the Backpack.
  • Woodie also doesn't suffer from the Piggyback's speed penalty, but only when he is transformed in one of his Wereforms. This makes the Piggyback very useful to equip for extra storage if one is making good use of his Wereforms, and is especially useful when visiting far away places such as the Lunar Island, Moon Quay, or the Ruins.

Placeholder.png Trivia

  • The Piggyback was added in the Doorway to Adventure update.
  • The Piggyback's name is a pun, on both the fact it is a backpack made from a pig's skin and on the action of giving a piggyback.
