Bed Rolls are craftable items that can be used to sleep through the night. There are two types of bed rolls: Straw Rolls and Fur Rolls.

Players can not use Bed Roll in several circumstances: when it's daytime, they are below 25 Hunger Meter.png, hound attack is coming or they near a monster.

Bed rolls cannot be used in "dangerous" situations, such as near a Spider Nest, in a Marsh (if Tentacles are nearby, as any Tentacles count as dangerous mobs even if they're under the surface), during combat, when monsters are nearby, and when Hounds or Depths Worms are approaching. This also includes Shadow Creatures.

If Hunger reaches 0, the character will automatically wake up to avoid starvation.

Bed Rolls are unusable by Wickerbottom due to her insomnia. Bed Rolls is useful for Wormwood as he cannot restore health from food.

Sleeping in it restores 0.66 Sanity and 0.5 health per second, costing 1 Hunger per second.

-Scrapbook Description

The Straw Roll is a one time use Healing Filter item that characters can use to sleep at dusk and night. While sleeping, every second the player drains 1 Hunger Meter.png to restores 0.5 Health Meter.png and 0.67 Sanity Meter.png. It is safe to sleep in complete darkness but the player can still be attacked by hounds or spiders. Any attack will interrupt sleep animation.

The Straw Roll does not keep the player's temperature. Sleeping in Winter should be close to a heat source like Fire Pit.

It requires 6 Cut Grass and 1 Rope to craft and a Science Machine to prototype. A Straw Roll can be used to craft a Fur Roll, which has multiple uses. A Straw Roll burns longer than the sum of its components (360 seconds versus 270 seconds, respectively, when used in a Fire Pit).

Sleeping in it restores 1 Sanity and 1 health per second, costing 1 Hunger per second. It also warms the user overtime.

-Scrapbook Description

The Fur Roll is a Healing Filter item that can be used to sleep through Dusk and Night, restoring Sanity and Health. It requires 1 Straw Roll, 2 Bunny Puffs to make, and an Alchemy Engine to prototype.

The Fur Roll can be used three times. While sleeping, every second the player drains 1 Hunger Meter.png to restores 1 Health Meter.png and 1 Sanity Meter.png. It is safe to sleep in complete darkness but the player can still be attacked by hounds or spiders. Any attack will interrupt sleep animation.

Additionally, sleeping in a Fur Roll will increase the user's temperature by 1/second if it is less than 40, and decrease the user's temperature by 1/second if it is greater than 40.

The Fur Roll will not prevent the user's temperature from being affected by other sources, so its temperature effect may be counteracted, and will also stack with other sources.

Prototype.png Tips

  • Charlie will not attack you when you are sleeping, making bed rolls an effective backup plan if you have no light source.

Placeholder.png Trivia

Mosquito.png Bugs

  • Using a straw roll and then immediately examining it will cause the character to just lie on the mat, instead of sleeping.
  • The Scrapbook describes the Don't Starve behavior of the bed rolls despite them receiving a change in functionality. This error is not present on the scrapbook page of the Tent.
