The Top Hat is a Hat Item found in the Dress Tab. It requires 6 Silk to craft and a Science Machine to prototype. The Sewing Kit repairs 62.5% of its Durability.

It restores 3.3 Sanity per minute while worn.

The Top Hat can also be used to create the Prestihatitator, which is a Tier 1 Magic research station.

The Top Hat can be given to a Pig, Bunnyman or, if you're playing as Webber, a spider to wear, which provides no effect. It will still lose durability while worn.

Skins

• The Heirloom Elegant Catty Costume Cap, Cheeky Chester Cap, Glommy Head Guise and Hutch Head Disguise skins were only obtainable during official Hallowed Nights events until 2020.
• The Elegant Fiery Witch's Hat skin is obtained by purchasing the Willow and Bernie Funko Pop! figure set, e.g. from the Klei Store.
• The Woven - Distinguished Merchant Hat skin was introduced in the An Eye for An Eye update in 2021, as a crossover collaboration with Re-Logic's Terraria. Its rarity was Inspired - Distinguished initially, but received change in August 19, 2022.
• The Loyal Amazing Ringmaster Hat skin was awarded for watching 6 hours of Don't Starve Together on Twitch from October 25, 2018 to November 8, 2018, and from January 31, 2019 to February 7, 2019. It is also available in the Klei Rewards shop for 1,200 Klei points.
• The Event Jingly Tophat skin does not drop normally. Instead, it is usable by everyone during the official Winter's Feast event.

Trivia

• The Top Hat used to cost 200 Research Points to craft and had a value of 10 Research Points when used on a Science Machine.
• The Top Hat once required the Alchemy Engine to craft. That was changed in the Hungry for Your Hunger update due to the addition of the Prestihatitator, which requires one Top Hat in the recipe and is prototyped with the Science Machine.
• The Dress Tab's icon is a teal version of the Top Hat.
• If playing as Wendy, a Top Hat will almost completely negate the effects of night sanity drain in normal conditions due to her lesser fear of night.
  • Note that despite Wendy's sanity icon not displaying an arrow going down, the Top Hat will not completely negate said effects.
• Wickerbottom and Winona have almost the exact same quote. The only difference is their spelling of bourgeoisie.
