Different Shadow Puppets
Initially, Shadow Puppets are not universal, instead they have to be chosen upon creation of which task they will be specialized in. As such, they do not mimic the actions that the player is performing, but instead spawn with a specific task which they perform. They also do not disappear after 2.5 days nor have a durability limit and stay active until they are killed. To dispel them, Maxwell or any other character can simply force attack (Ctrl/Cmnd) click them. Shadow Puppets will drop 1 Nightmare Fuel when killed or dispelled by players.
Shadow Logger
The Shadow Logger cost 2 Nightmare Fuel, 1 Axe and -40 maximum sanity to summon. It chops trees closest to the player.
Shadow Miner
The Shadow Miner cost 2 Nightmare Fuel, 1 Pickaxe and -40 maximum sanity to summon. It mines rocks closest to the player.
Shadow Digger
The Shadow Digger cost 2 Nightmare Fuel, 1 Shovel and -40 maximum sanity to summon. It digs up stumps/graves closest to the player.
Shadow Duelist
The Shadow Duelist cost 2 Nightmare Fuel, 1 Spear and -70 maximum sanity to summon. It defends the player from attackers as well as attack player's target. Naturally regenerates 15 health every 2 seconds.
Summon Limitations
Given the loss in sanity, the player can summon a maximum of:
- 4 Harvesters - Residual Sanity: 40 (20%)
- 1 Duelist and 2 Harvesters - Residual Sanity: 50 (25%)
- 2 Duelist and 1 Harvester - Residual Sanity: 20 (10%)
Importing
Before the Doorway to Adventure update, it was possible to import a save for the steam version of Don't Starve from a backed up region that could be found in the steam directory. This feature has since been removed.
Cave's Walls
The Caves used to have giant walls, making it hard for the player to see. They were later removed. In game files, unused wall textures can still be found. One of them is the wooden walls that were used for the Forbidden Knowledge short and as walls for the house in the Hamlet DLC.
Pig Mazes
In early versions of the caves, instead of ruins, you ended up in labyrinths in which the floor is made of wood, the walls are made of stone, and pigs, guard pigs, Pig Torch and Slurtle Mound spawn around

Belongings
All Removed Belongings
- The Woven - Elegant Emergency Exit Was Removed in update 513864 it was merged with the Scrap Metal Boat skin for the boat.
Server intention
This is a feature where players can add intent to a server to tell other players about the intent of the game on that server(Social/Cooperative/Competitive/Madness). When it was removed, a similar feature was added to the World Customization presets.
Old Character Portraits
Portraits with the character's names and different frames were used in certain menus, but were later removed for consistency.
Trivia
- Wolfgang and WX-78 are the only characters able to survive the Deadly Feast as they can increase their maximum health after acquiring it. This is because the Deadly Feast's code only checks for a character's max health when it is first acquired.
- Wormwood can also survive the Deadly Feast, as he cannot lose or gain health from eating food.
- "Long pig" or "long pork" is a term reportedly used by cannibals to refer to human flesh as food.
- Pigs can turn into Werepigs if fed 4 Long Pig, since Long Pig and all variants reduce health when eaten.
- Long Pig is missing a drying model when put on a Drying Rack.
