Meat is a Food item dropped by numerous fleshy creatures (Pigs, Beefalo, Deerclops etc.) It can be used to make the Ham Bat, or as an ingredient in multiple Crock Pot Recipes. It also can be dried on a Drying Rack for 2 days to make Jerky. Its less-filling alternative is a morsel, which only provides 12.5 hunger.
See general meat uses.

Cooked Meat is Meat that has been cooked on a Campfire, Fire Pit, or Star. It can also be used in multiple Crock Pot recipes. Mobs that ordinarily drop Meat and die from being set on fire will drop Cooked Meat instead. Cooked Meat is required to make Meat Effigies.
Jerky

–Wurt

Jerky is a product of drying raw Meat on the Drying Rack for two game days. Jerky has a low rate of spoilage of 20 days, and restores 25 Hunger, 20 Health, and 15 Sanity. Jerky provides the same amount of Hunger, but more Health and Sanity than its raw or cooked counterparts. Jerky can also be used in a Crock Pot as normal Meat. See general meat uses. Unharvested Jerky will not start to spoil as long it is left on the Drying Rack, making it possible to keep it fresh for an indefinite amount of time.
Due to the fact that Jerky restores Health, Hunger and Sanity at the same time, this item can be useful for recovering from Woodie's Werebeaver transformation. The same effect can be achieved with Small Jerky, albeit, with weaker restorative properties than normal Jerky.

In the Reign of Giants and Shipwrecked DLCs, Jerky will begin to spoil immediately upon creation on a Drying Rack, regardless of whether it is harvested or not.
Additionally, in the Shipwrecked DLC, large Fish items such as Dogfish, Raw Fish and Swordfish can be dried to obtain Jerky, allowing them to be used in the Crock Pot as Meat instead.
In the Hamlet DLC, it has a 67% chance to spawn Jerky from Secret Bandit Camp and have a 4% chance to spawn from A Smashing Pot.

Tips
- Without Crock Pots, Jerky is the meat food with the highest Sanity restoration. This makes it great for restoring sanity for Wickerbottom, who can't sleep due to her insomnia, and Wigfrid, who can only eat meat-based food.
- As Jerky does not technically count as a cooked item, Wagstaff will still suffer a 3
penalty from consuming it, bringing the total healing down to 17
.
Trivia
- Jerky was added in A Little Rain Must Fall update.
