Grass Gekkos are passive Mobs in Don't Starve Together. They are found in Desert/Rockyland Biomes and act as an alternative source of Cut Grass. When killed, Gekkos drop 0-2 Cut Grass and 1 Leafy Meat. Grass Gekkos have a chance of spawning from planted Grass Tufts, destroying the tuft in the process. They spawn in groups, all at the same time.
Grass Gekkos can spawn from replanted Grass Tufts, but not from natural ones. After planting a Grass Tuft a morph delay will start, this will last from 20 to 30 days. While a Grass Tuft is in morph delay it cannot spawn any Grass Gekkos. Picking or digging up any Grass Tufts has a 1% chance to attempt morphing on nearby Grass Tufts, except in winter. Morphing has several conditions: it has to be replanted, it has to be grown, it has to be out of morph delay and there must be less than 6 Gekkos in a 5 tile radius. If all the conditions succeed then the Grass Tuft turns into a Grass Gekko, if any condition fails the Grass Tuft restarts its morph delay (except if it is already in morph delay).
Grass Gekkos spend their time slowly wandering around and sleeping in the sun. When approached, the Gekkos will jump up in alarm and dash away, leaving their "tail". This tail is actually a piece of Cut Grass. The Gekko will regrow the tail two full days after dropping it. Pigs, Bunnymen, and Chester startle Grass Gekkos as the player would.
