The Possessed Varg is a boss monster exclusive to Don't Starve Together, added in From Beyond. It is the reanimated corpse of a regular Varg, possessed by a Brightshade Gestalt if a Lunar Rift is active in the world. Before the Brightshade Gestalt possesses the Varg corpse, it can manually be lit on fire using a Torch, Fire Staff or similar to prevent the fight, similar to Horror Hounds.
The Possessed Varg is one of three lunar-mutated bosses which must be killed to complete the Grainy Transmission quest, upon the completion of which the player receives an empty Spark Ark.
After opening Rifts if the player has not killed a Possessed Varg as part of the quest, Suspicious Dirt Piles with teeth will appear in the world with claw marks next to them. If the player follows these tracks they will be led to a Varg and its Hounds feasting on the meat and body of a recently-deceased Koalefant.
Like a normal Varg, the Possessed Varg periodically howls to summon two Hounds at a time; however, after their death, the summoned Hounds turn into Horror Hounds.
The Possessed Varg has the same bite as the Varg, and also uses a new attack - it breathes cold flames in an area, turning from side to side and dealing damage several times to players caught within. This same attack is also a weakness of the Possessed Varg — if the Varg receives damage from a Planar Damage weapon during its cold breath attack, it can be stunned for a short period of time, during which players can deal damage to the Varg or deal with its Hounds. Additionally, this attack can deal damage to the Varg's Hounds if they are caught within, including Blue Hounds, but excluding Horror Hounds.
If the Varg gets every attack off, its pattern is 2-3 Bites before a Coldfire Breath. The player can, however, manipulate it to not bite and only use its breath attack by running from it for 10 seconds, for the purpose of stunning it after the attack.
