The Damaged Bishop is a battered version of the regular Clockwork Bishop which occurs naturally in the Ruins, but also has a chance of spawning from Broken Clockworks when they are destroyed. It has the same base stats as the standard bishop and drops 1 Purple Gem, with a chance of also dropping Nightmare Fuel and/or Thulecite Fragments.

The player can spawn an allied Damaged Bishop (or any other chess piece) by using 3 Gears to repair a pile of Broken Clockworks. They fight most mobs within the caves, and can even fight other damaged clockworks - although famously this doesn't always work. These can be very powerful allies while in the Ruins, however if a player already has Rock Lobsters with them, it may be more worthwhile simply hammering the Broken Clockworks.

Damaged Bishops may be hostile towards other followers such as Hutch, while remaining friendly towards the player. Popular methods of killing these Damaged Clockwork Bishops is to run around wildly with speed buffing items (such as the Walking Cane or Magiluminescence), and get the Damaged Rooks to accidentally damage the Bishops (seeing as Rooks do 200 damage to non-player mobs).

The Bishop is a moderately strong ranged mob, usually very accurate, so it is recommended to be armored and armed for a battle with one. It is possible to dodge the Bishop's lighting bolts if the player is quick enough. Suddenly running to one side just as the Bishop is about to attack will usually leave the player unharmed by the lighting bolt, although the bolt does have a small area effect.

Some players opt to tank the damage, by wearing armor and repeatedly hitting the Damaged Clockwork Bishop until death; and while this is easier than kiting it, damage will be taken, so healing items are recommended.

Below is the number of hits it takes with each weapon to kill Damaged Clockwork Bishops when playing with characters with a default damage modifier. The Weather Pain is not included due to the random nature of its projectile.
