Graves or Mounds are naturally-appearing objects in the world that can be found individually in Forests or in a large group in Graveyards (which are characterized by large shrouds of fog). They may be found with or without a nearby Headstone, though graves without headstones can only be found in graveyards. Graves can only be dug up once, and each world spawns with a limited number of them. Each grave dug costs the player 10 Sanity Meter.png.

Each grave dug with a Shovel has a 10% chance to spawn a Ghost, which will be aggressive towards the player. Otherwise, the player has chance of finding a random Trinket, Blue or Red Gem, Gears, Life Giving Amulet, or Nightmare Fuel.

Additionally, there is 10% to drop a Recipe Card or Lost Scrapbook Page.

Drop Rate Table
Category Item Drop Rate
Regular Ghost 10%
Trinkets 45%
Gears 3.46%
Life Giving Amulet 3.46%
Nightmare Fuel 3.46%
Red Gem 17.31%
Blue Gem 17.31%
Additional Recipe Card 10%
Lost Scrapbook Page 10%

During Hallowed Nights event, digging Graves has chance of spawning Oversized Pumpkin Carving Tools and Halloween Decorations. It can also spawn 3 Batilisk with increasing chance.

Headstone

Headstones are objects that usually spawn next to a Grave and cannot be destroyed. Pipspooks have a chance to appear close to a Headstone every day if there is no other Pipspook nearby. The chance of appearing is 5% per player Wendy in the server with a minimum of 5%.

Grave Beautification.pngGrave Beautification

Wendy with the "Grave Beautification" skill can decorate Headstones with Petals. Giving 3 Petals will spawn a Bigspook from the ground up regardless of the day/moon cycle. Wendy is limited to summoning 4 Bigspooks at a time. Petals will stay 6 days (48 min) on Headstones. Decorated Headstones will spawn Evil Flowers after 16-24 minutes. So decorated Headstones can spawn 2-3 Evil Flowers before becoming a normal Headstone.

Gravestones By Wendy.pngGravestones By Wendy

Wendy with the "Gravestones By Wendy" skill can build a Headstone on any Skeleton, including those of fallen survivors and the Merm and Pig skeleton couple. Also, Wendy can relocate the Headstone with the Spirit Vessel.

Prototype.png Tips

  • Digging Graves is one of the quickest ways to go insane for farming Nightmare Fuel, although due to the limited number of Graves in the world, it is not a repeatable method.

Placeholder.png Trivia

  • The gravestone epitaph "Always Watching" may be a reference to the video game Slender.
  • In a Shipwrecked connected world, graves will give trinkets from both the base game and Shipwrecked, more commonly dropping ones from the latter.
  • The gravestone epitaph "Pulvis Et Umbra Sumus" is Latin for "We are but dust and shadows" and is a phrase associated with the Cyclum Puzzles.
  • The gravestone epitaph "Quoth the Tallbird, Evermore" is a reference to the famous line from Edgar Allen Poe's poem, The Raven.
    • It also suggests they died from a Tallbird.
