An Ancient Pseudoscience Station is a special Crafting Structure, found only in the Military and Sacred biomes in the Ruins. It emits enough light to ward off Charlie, and grants access to the Ancient Tab when nearby.

Most Stations will initially be found broken and damaged, taking one strike from a Hammer to destroy; In this state, the player will only have access to half of the recipes available to craft at the Station, although it still emits light. However, players can repair the Station using either Thulecite or Thulecite Fragments, taking around 32-34 Fragments (or 6 Thulecite) to fully repair it, causing a Lightning strike as a side effect. A fully repaired Station grants access to all of the available recipes and can withstand ten Hammer strikes, the first one reverting it back to its broken state. Fully intact Stations can spawn naturally, but they will be typically guarded by more Broken Clockworks, and have two Nightmare Lights adjacent to the Station.

Every time the Station is struck with a Hammer, lightning will strike the player, and it will either drop valuable loot or spawn Shadow Creatures and other monsters. Refer to the table below for exact probabilities:

If destroyed, the Station drops 2 Thulecite, and has a 50% chance each to drop 1 Nightmare Fuel, Frazzled Wires, and Rocks, in addition to the drops triggered by the strike. Like every other Structure in the Ruins, all Ancient Pseudoscience Stations can be renewed by regenerating the Caves with the Seed of Ruin.

Prototype.png Tips

  • The lightning strikes can easily be neutralized by constructing a Lightning Rod next to the Station.
  • WX-78 can benefit from triggering the lightning strikes, in order to gain System Overload.
  • It is possible to constantly damage and then repair the Station to reap its drops, each repair costing 3-4 Thulecite per Hammer strike. However, Shadow Creatures will spawn more often than loot, so be prepared for combat if you are planning to do this.
