Mushroom Spores are items exclusive to Don't Starve Together. Their color depends on the blooming Mushtree or Funcap they spawned from. If left alone they will float around aimlessly, emitting a small radius of light, and then disappear after a short time. They can also be caught with a Bug Net and put inside a Glowcap to make it glow in various colors.

The spores can be planted in a Mushroom Planter, eventually yielding 6 mushrooms.

Spores begin spoiling as soon as they spawn. When floating their time to spoil is only 3 day segments (90 seconds), but when collected their total spoil time is 15 days in player inventory or chests, 20 days in a Chef Pouch, 30 days in an Insulated Pack, or Snow Chester, 60 days in a Glowcap, and last indefinitely in a Enlightened Crown or Enlightened Crown Shard. Spores cannot be put in an Ice Box. When completely spoiled, spores leave nothing.

The Lunar Spore is a naturally spawning object and player hazard in Don't Starve Together. They are produced by Mush Gnomes periodically and in large numbers when attacked, and by Lunar Mushtrees when chopped with an Axe. After hanging in the air for a few seconds, Lunar Spores rapidly shake back and forth and then pop, dealing 10 damage in a radius of 3 units. Lunar Spores will enter their shaking state and quickly pop when a player gets too close.

Unlike Mushroom Spores, they cannot be caught with a Bug Net.

Prototype.png Tips

  • Because of their extremely fast spoilage rate when floating around, it is advised to only catch freshly-spawned spores to avoid decreasing the overall freshness of the stack in player's inventory.
  • Spores will light on fire and quickly turn into ash if exposed to a fire. Using this feature, players can place a campfire by a few blooming mushtrees and chase the spores into the flames to collect a steady amount of ashes every minute.

Placeholder.pngTrivia

  • The Lunar Spore was introduced in the Forgotten Knowledge update.
  • Players can quickly get rid of Lunar Spores without taking damage by approaching them and subsequently retreating once they begin to shake.
